The new edition, published in 2009, combines a readable, modern feel with the classic look of the original.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #000000;">It contains everything you need to know about cooking – from measuring ingredients and operating ovens to the preparation of vegetables and meat, and how to freeze foods, along with more than 700 recipes, specially tested – from breakfasts to mixed drinks, and recipes for large function catering. A large number of the dishes are beloved South African favourites. There&#8217;s also a great section about preserving foods.<br />

This </em><em>corn bread is </em><em> great with roasts and plenty of gravy.</em></p>

<p><em><strong>1/2 cup butter, melted or cooking oil<br />
2 cups miliemeal<br />
2/3 cup all-purpose flour<br />
2t  baking powder<br />
1 1/2t  salt<br />
2T sugar<br />
500ml buttermilk<br />
1 cup fresh or frozen corn kernels, thoughed and chopped<br />
4 eggs, well beaten</strong></em></p>
<ol>
<li>Preheat oven to 200°C. Grease a ±20cm x 20cm  baking dish with 1T tbsp. of the butter and set aside.</li>
<li>Mix miliemeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar  together in a large mixing bowl.</li>
<li>Add buttermilk, chopped corn kernels and eggs, and beat with a wooden spoon until thoroughly mixed. Add remaining butter/oil and stir until just mixed.</li>
<li>Pour batter into the prepared dish and bake until golden, firm to the touch, and cracked on top, ±30 minutes. Set aside to let cool.</li>
</ol>
