Managers can observe neatness, accuracy, effective time management skills, communication and leadership qualities, creativity and innovative thinking abilities, the ability to follow instructions or to improvise, problem solving skills, and the overall team spirit of individuals and groups.

Group interviewing is often used to determine how people interact and perform while working in teams to complete projects in a set time. The pressure in the workplace and social barriers however, often hamper the performance level. If a group of people are pitted against other groups in cooking competitions outside the workplace, where position and experience don’t count, their true colors show. How do the cooking competitions work?

Up to 3 groups can compete against each other in Sunninghill, while 2 groups can be accommodated in Boksburg. Each group receives a basket of the same mystery ingredients, as well as a list of suggested recipes to prepare a full course meal within certain time constraints. Starters, two side dishes, and desserts also form part of the events. A minimum of six dishes are prepared by each group.

The groups work at their own counters where the counter assistants do observation and assessment throughout the preparation process. Fifteen minutes are given for the planning and two hours for cooking. The final assessment is done by the professional class instructor and a panel decides which team wins.

The main areas for assessment include neatness, creativity of the dishes, use of ingredients, and time utilization. The ingredients and light beverages are included in the price. The client decides on the award and is welcome to purchase any of our great products as the award to fit in with the theme of cooking competitions.
